Macy-Declawed and delightful!

1/7/18 - Felt little pitty pats walking up my bed this morning-opened my eyes and she was sitting on the other pillow looking at me-lol Pretty sure I she did spend some time in bed during the night too. After I got dressed and walked out into the living room and saw she was enjoying the view out the front windows sitting on the WIDE window sill! She's begun telling me when she wants to eat-sits at her water dish and chirps. Last night she got on the sofa and I had one leg stretched out (sciatica!) and the other on the floor-she promptly put her head on my leg and rolled on her back and stretched as long as she could-stayed there about an hour!! She's just the sweetest thing!!!! Ran to BJ's just got home, I had put the new velvety thrown on the twin bed in my computer room/or the computer in the spare bedroom! And she just thinks it's wonderful-she was all curled up when I walked in and after a few head rubs, she sound asleep again. You must be getting sick of me-but I'm just so happy Macy and I found each other-oh and she gives little kisses too Rolling on the floor laughing. Kathy

Meadow & Ms. Cheeto - Sweet sisters
Meadow & Ms. Cheeto - Sweet sisters

5/24/18- Hi Annette, They are doing really great. They seem to be getting very comfortable with our apartment. They are still pretty shy and run and hide a lot, but they are definitely opening up more since we first adopted them. They let us pet them and brush them (especially Cheeto), and they are always running around and playing at night. We're very happy that we adopted them. Thanks! Joe

Magic - Wow!
Magic - Wow!

2/9/18 - Hi Annette, This is the first time I have added a cat to a household that already had cats. It was an interesting experience! For about four days, we kept Max (formerly Magic) completely isolated in a bedroom and our other kitties could smell him. Our girl cat would sit at the door, sniff and then hiss at the door. Then we tried to open the bedroom door and stacked 2 baby gates on top of each other so that they could see each other but not have complete access. Well, the baby gates didn't quite reach to the top of the doorway and both Max and our boy cat were successfully jumping to the top of the baby gates. So that was a fail. So then we started allowing them to spend time with each other in the bedroom for limited periods of time. Our boy cat Tommy definitely warmed up to him a lot faster than our girl cat Annika. At first she wanted nothing to do with him and greeted him each time with a hiss. About a week in, we let Max free roam the house. Sometimes things would get too intense and we'd bring him back into the bedroom and let things cool off. There were about 4 to 5 tense days where we were always a bit on edge, listening for hissing or snarling. Fortunately, there was never any kind of physical fighting that was happening. But it was amazing to watch them acclimate to each other. I had no idea how important butt-sniffing is in this process, but they sure did a lot of it. And it was interesting to see which of our boy cats would ultimately turn out to be the dominant cat. It is definitely Max. Right now, I can see that both Annika and Tommy occasionally are a bit fearful of Max. But not so much so that they don't want to spend time with him. They just basically defer to him. We're not even three weeks in yet, so I'm sure they will continue to get more comfortable with each other over time. Max and Tommy are great playmates. They love chasing each other around the house, and wrestling with each other. Max and Anikka both love to watch the bird action outside. Max is such a lap cat. He loves to spend time snuggled up against my husband or my older daughter in bed (he actually likes to spend time on top of her computer, so he's actually a laptop cat). So, happily, I can say that things are working out great, just as we hoped they would. We've got Max's vet appointment scheduled for next week. Thanks so much for being a great foster mom to Max. He's wonderful boy and we are so thrilled to have him as part of our family. Fondly, Beth

Millie

PIPER When I was with Castaway Critters in 2008 I was named Millie. I am a Schipperke inside a mini Aussie Shepherd suit. I was abandoned when I was less than a year old and pregnant. I guess my original owner did not want to keep a pregnant puppy or deal with my babies. Thankfully I was put in the care of my loving foster family in York. Little did I know, as I was weaning my puppies and preparing to see them adopted, my mommy was desperately searching for me on Petfinder.com. She told me she was online 2 hours a day for two weeks until my story was finally posted and I was available for adoption. By now I was already over a year old and not considered a puppy anymore. My Mommy said she did not want a little puppy and that I was the perfect age for her. She made the 45 min drive to York to see me within days. When she stepped into the yard I, with all my other foster siblings, ran across the yard but I got to her first and jumped into her arms. It was love at first sight. My official adoption day was February 2, 2008. Every day since then, while she is cuddling with me or brushing me, my mommy tells me how incredibly lucky she is. I don’t understand this as I don’t recall her winning any lottery lately. She spoils me with several walks a day since we don’t have a fenced yard. I wait patiently for her in the morning and during the day until she returns from work so I can take walks with her. I love to see my canine neighbors. We also take occasional field trips to the dog park on her days off. She keeps telling me that I ‘am her heart’. I don’t know what that means but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. I did the best I could at puppy school but I was too excited to see all the other dogs and barked constantly so my Mommy had me home schooled which was fun too. I love to learn and I always try hard to understand what humans are asking of me. My Mommy saw how much I love people so I became a Red Cross Therapy Dog. I even have a photo ID to wear when we visit nursing homes. I know I have an important job to share my cuteness with everyone there. I love my life, except those annoying grooming appointments, and I am soooo grateful Castaway Critters helped me find a forever home. Mommy also added 2 kittens from Castaway Critters in November 2013. I watch over them every day while Mommy is at work and even share my favorite window seat in the sunroom.

Ms. Licorice - Sleek, sweet and playful!

1/14/15 - Hi, Annette. I just wanted to update you on Ms. Licorice, the gem I adopted from you 3.5 years ago. She is an affectionate and confident cat. My others hide when company comes, but Licorice hangs around. She is playful and races to get into my bed at night. Here is a picture. Susan P.S. Also, may I add that I never adopted an adult cat before. She was about 16 months when I got her, yet she adjusted from the day I brought her home. And, I got a cat who was already neutered and vaccinated. I would consider another adult in the future.
