Latte-Come Visit me at Blue Dog Pet Store
Latte-Come Visit me at Blue Dog Pet Store

1/4/14 - Hello! My family is the one that adopted "Latte" from Castaway Critters in July and I wanted to send you an update. He has since come to be known as Cat Stevens (or sometimes Mr Pinky Nose) and I want you to know how happy we are with him and how much we love him. He has fit into our lives so perfectly and helped our other cat, Simone, recover from her grief over the loss of her friend, our former dear cat, Lead Belly. The two cats play together vigorously and it's so fun to watch. And Cat Stevens is so gentle with our three-year-old daughter, Luna...she absolutely loves him. I think often that whoever fostered him as a kitten did a wonderful job to nurture such a loving foundation for him...he is just such a lover. :-) And my how he has grown! You would not believe he is a kitten, no one does, he is HUGE -- almost 16 pounds (we watch how much he eats but he is just naturally one big guy). He is so funny -- he is one of those weird cats that loves water and he's often sleeping in the bathtub or the sink. I'm sending along a couple pictures. Thank you for all you do for animals. And thank you for accepting our application and letting us take home this wonderful cat...we have all fallen completely in love with him. Happy New Year! Happily, Heather

Leonard - a TRUE rescue!
Leonard - a TRUE rescue!

Lenny has a good home now, but we feel like the lucky ones. He is the dearest and sweetest little soul. This photo was taken one day this summer right after Lenny had a bath. He loves to be wrapped up after I dry him. Too cute! I play a game with him where I sing his name. He rubs his eyes and hides his head. If I lean in next to him, he'll give me a kiss. Great stuff for a dog that didn't wag his tail for almost the first two months he came to us. Now he doesn't stop wagging it. I love this little guy something fierce. We are the ones that are blessed.

Liah - TERRIFIC family/kids dog!
Liah - TERRIFIC family/kids dog!

Elaine & Theresa,

We've had Liah for over 8 months now and I have to tell you that she's the perfect dog for us!  She continues to bring so much joy to our home each and every day.  She has remained an extremely timid dog -- Dr. Sarsfield said it's either from lack of socialization when she was very young or just her nature and it might take her years to recover from that, or she may not. The techs at Dauphin Co Animal Hospital always sit on the floor with Liah, but Dr. Sarsfield also did when he came into the exam room yesterday.  They're a great bunch too!

It takes her several long visits from friends and family until she's brave enough to let someone pet her, but once she trusts, you have a real friend.  She goes through this process with visitors over a period of hours where she gets brave enough to take just one sniff of the visitor, then walks back and forth a few feet in front of them until the occasional sniffs result in tentative trust enough to take a treat or a pat on the head.  We adopted Liah while our son, Shane, was away at military training.  When he came home, and also when my brother-in-law stayed with us recently, it took a day and a half until she trusted them.  It's so heartwarming to receive a texted picture of Liah curled up in the lap on the floor with her nearly made friend after so many hours of her fear.

She's loving, playful, good natured, behaves well, and, as an added bonus, is a wonderful deterrent to crime.  Although she runs and hides once someone is in the house, her ferocious bark while they're outside would scare anyone off.

The bottom line is that we couldn't love her any more and she loves and trusts us equally.  We had looked for what seemed like a very long time to find our next family dog and are so thankful to you for matching us up with our Liah.  Thanks for all the work you and all the Castaway Critters volunteers do for these aminals.

Marlene Brady.

Lilly - Super playful, fun lab!

8/31/12 - She hasn't jumped off the boat yet, I'm waiting for that, we keep a vest on her just in case. She loves the boat... and Saturday we watched a bunch of ducks. She was interested but really not sure what she was suppose to do...was cute to watch. She's a great dog. We've taken her to downtown Annapolis a couple of times and she just walks with us and greets everyone with a tail wag. She's enrolled in doggy day care. She loves it there... stands by the garage door in the mornings cause she wants to go. We are taking her twice a week for now.

5/29/12 - We had a quiet weekend at home (not too much partying.) It is going very well - Kitty is adjusting nicely. She seems happy and relaxed (not stressed out.) So that's a good thing. I am happy too. Thanks for your help in the adoption process. Denise
