Angelina - Saved from abusive home 2/14/13 - Hi Annette, Just wanted to catch you up on Angie. She has been doing really well and seems more and more comfortable everyday. She really loves Jim and gravitates towards him often. She has become playful and carries her little mice around. We had our daughter's dog here last week and Angie pretty much avoided her. We kept some gates up so Angie still had her space without the dog (Roxie is the dog's name) bothering her. They did have a face to face meeting and they both just looked at each other and then Angie ran off. Thanks for bringing Angie in to our life! Barb >
Amisha 5/28/12 - When I told my husband that I was going to volunteer at Castaway Critters to help with cats, his only comment was., "You're not bringing any home, RIGHT?!" Of course not, I said. I already had two Bengal boys and a smooth running household. Well that all changed the day I saw Mimi (formerly Amisha, top cat in photo below). I must admit it was the missing tail that got my attention. The lack of tail intrigued my husband, too. When we brought her home, I was all set to do the long term cat introductions, but we only had one day of hissing and growling before everyone settled down. Mimi could care less that she was being shadowed by Spike or that Benny ran away everytime she went near him. She was more intent on exploring her new home. By the first night she had been to the top of all the cat furniture, used the scratching post, used the big-boy litterbox and found the food on the counter. Miss Mimi didn't have one shy bone in her body. We kept everyone separate when we weren't there to supervise, but that lasted only 4 days. It's been 7 weeks now and we've all settled into a routine. Meemers doesn't sleep with me like the boys, but she must be nearby because when Ben gives the morning Meow, she is quick to jump on the bed for her morning rubdown. They follow to the bathroom while I get dressed and ready for work. Everyone assumes their positions on the counter for breakfast. She is always the last to finish, and she lets me know by "covering" her crumbs. Of course I assume everyone sleeps while I am at work. All three are at the door to greet me when I get home from work. After my lunchbox and the daily mail are investigated, we do chores before dinner. So far the only think that scares Mimi is the vacuum. Guaranteed to send cats scurring to the four corners of the house. Dinner is a repeat of breakfast. On special nights we'll play with DaBird feather-on-a-string toy. It amazes me how they will all take turns jumping for the feathers. Mimi is rather quiet unless she's playing with her toy mouse or chatting to a bug. I thought there was something wrong with her one night until I realized she was trying to coax a stink bug down from the ceiling. She has yet to learn the Stink Bug Lesson. We are very pleased with how well she has settled into our home. It makes me smile everytime I see her chasing Ben [only to see him return the favor] or stretched out in a sunbeam with Spike. She has found her Forever Home. Julie
Athena My husband and I would really like to thank Castaway Critters for helping bring Stella into our lives. She has fit in so well, it is as if she were always here and has filled a very large void in my life. Back in September, We lost our oldest cat, Sweet Pee. She was 13 years old and an intestinal tumor took her life very quickly. She was one of the sweetest cats you could ever meet. Our other animals sensed the loss of Sweet Pee and also were very in tune with my grief over this loss. LC, is our 8 year old Australian shepherd mix and had to be placed in a house with cats. LC did not want to leave my side. Smokey, our 5 year old Weimaraner who we adopted in 2008, stayed close to me and seemed to just want to cuddle a little more then usual. He would lay on the couch, wrap his paws around my waist and place his head on my chest. Mr. Magoo, our 11 year old cat and medical miracle -he has been in remission from B-cell Lymphoma for 5 years, also seemed a little depressed and much more clingy.. I was not sure when I would be ready to adopt a new cat, but I like to think that when one animal passes they are telling me it is time to give another animal a forever home, one they might not ever get. I started looking for a new adoption about a month after Sweet Pee passed. I knew I would need a special kind of cat, one who isn't afraid of dogs and one who can stand up for herself to another cat. I figured when I saw the right cat I would know. As soon as I saw the picture of Stella, who was named Athena at the time, I just wanted to get my camera out and take pictures of her. Then I read her bio and it stated she loves dogs, gets along with cats and is a very confident girl. I knew she was the one for us. I sent her picture home and showed it to my husband, Scott. He was not as sure as I was, but he told me to go ahead a fill out the adoption application. The rest, as they say, is history. Attached are pictures of Stella. It seems she has really fallen for Smokey. We absolutely love and adore Stella and she has all of us wrapped around her tiny paw. Thank you again for finding her and allowing us to give her a forever home. Sincerely, Carolyn and Scott Frankhauser
Annabelle - Affectionate Lap Sitter Well, Annette, It's been a month and a week and Annabelle has truly come out of her shell. She is no longer shy with us. She hops on my lap or lies on the floor near my feet when I'm working from home. She plays 'follows the laser light' with Toby in the evening and likes to play fetch with Cameron. She absolutely adores Cameron - looking up and meowing at us when he's not at home. It's so cute when she run to greet him as soon as he walks in the door and 'tells' him she missed him. Cameron is so very, very happy to have her. He spends a lot of his free time cuddling and playing with her. Wanted to let you know - she is the best thing that ever happened to him. Diane
Annie Gentle June 2008 Hi Cindy, Thought you might be interested in knowing that Torrie and Lacey (AKA Alice and Annie Gentile) are still warming our hearts and being overgrown kittens. They pretty much own the house, sleeping with us every night. They romp and play a lot considering their age and size: They are weighing in at around 9 pounds. They inflict certain death on centipedes and anything that flies... no matter how many knick knacks get in the way. When she's not watching the birds and other wildlife on the patio, Torrie gets her jollies by slapping the boys around. What a clown. Lacey is the princess who will tell Torrie what she thinks of wrestling in five kitty languages. I'm attaching a photo of the girls "helping" me change the linens in the bathroom. (No, that is not my paint job on the side of the drawer.) I hope things are going well for you and your family. Take care, -Julie - Click a letter to find an animal or view all.
