Millie
Millie

PIPER When I was with Castaway Critters in 2008 I was named Millie. I am a Schipperke inside a mini Aussie Shepherd suit. I was abandoned when I was less than a year old and pregnant. I guess my original owner did not want to keep a pregnant puppy or deal with my babies. Thankfully I was put in the care of my loving foster family in York. Little did I know, as I was weaning my puppies and preparing to see them adopted, my mommy was desperately searching for me on Petfinder.com. She told me she was online 2 hours a day for two weeks until my story was finally posted and I was available for adoption. By now I was already over a year old and not considered a puppy anymore. My Mommy said she did not want a little puppy and that I was the perfect age for her. She made the 45 min drive to York to see me within days. When she stepped into the yard I, with all my other foster siblings, ran across the yard but I got to her first and jumped into her arms. It was love at first sight. My official adoption day was February 2, 2008. Every day since then, while she is cuddling with me or brushing me, my mommy tells me how incredibly lucky she is. I don’t understand this as I don’t recall her winning any lottery lately. She spoils me with several walks a day since we don’t have a fenced yard. I wait patiently for her in the morning and during the day until she returns from work so I can take walks with her. I love to see my canine neighbors. We also take occasional field trips to the dog park on her days off. She keeps telling me that I ‘am her heart’. I don’t know what that means but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. I did the best I could at puppy school but I was too excited to see all the other dogs and barked constantly so my Mommy had me home schooled which was fun too. I love to learn and I always try hard to understand what humans are asking of me. My Mommy saw how much I love people so I became a Red Cross Therapy Dog. I even have a photo ID to wear when we visit nursing homes. I know I have an important job to share my cuteness with everyone there. I love my life, except those annoying grooming appointments, and I am soooo grateful Castaway Critters helped me find a forever home. Mommy also added 2 kittens from Castaway Critters in November 2013. I watch over them every day while Mommy is at work and even share my favorite window seat in the sunroom.
