Maggie Some of you have had the pleasure in meeting Maggie, she was returned after being in a home for 6 months. But this time I think Maggie hit gold. I like to share a e-mail from her new "mom". Sounds great!, I'm going to send you $100 for the calendar and the postage to send dental sticks. Steve said he was going to send some and I am sure it will not be cheap so hopefully this will help compensate and if there is any left, please use it as you see fit to benefit the organization. Again, thank you for sending us Angel number 5. Maggie is actually my 4th rescue dog. Besides Molly and Tessie, I had a shep/lab mix that I got from the SPCA in York in 1992. She was not people friendly and they were going to put her down, but when I saw how scared she was, I took her home. She was about 2 when I got her and 10 years later in 2002 I had to put her down. She had arthritis pretty bad and was having trouble walking. Her name was Sammy and she loved the water. One day after she was swimming in the pond, we went home and that night I knew something was wrong. I took her to the emergency hospital and she had a ruptured spleen. With her age and her medical problems, the vet said it was time to free her from her pain. I held her in my arms as she went to sleep and it broke my heart and I promised her I would do my best to help other dogs have a home with love and happiness. I will never forget Sammy, she was my life for 10 years and 2 months after she left us, I got Tessie from Ohio. Tessie had just delivered a litter of puppies. They kept her puppies and dumped her at the shelter. She was so sad and I knew she missed her puppies. She was only 1 1/2 and the vet said she appeared to have been used for breeding in her young life. She was so scared of people at first. That was in 2002 and today she has come so far. She acts like a mommy to the rest of them. She appears to be correcting them at times and she is always licking their faces and cleaning them up. I did not want Tessie to be alone so I got on the net and in 2003 I found Molly in West Virginia. Molly had been left in an abandoned home with her brother and a bunch of big dogs. She was taken and put in a shelter with Akita's and they got out of their pen and attached her. She was in the hospital for a week, she was only 3 months old. The vet said it was amazing she did not have serious injuries to her organs. She was terrified when she came to me at 4 months. It took her about 4 years to get past her fear and she is doing much better now. Which brings me to Maggie. We have been so fortunate with our pets, we love them all, they are so precious. Mike brought Missy and Mocha into the family and although we love them as much, they have never been through the suffering and sadness the others have. They were adopted as puppies and have spent their life in a good home. My heart goes out to all the pets who do not have a loving home, I wish I could save them all. It is very special what you and Steve do for the animals and you should be very proud of yourselves. I think it is wonderful, they are so lucky to have you in their corner. Peggy |
