Zoey- Very sweet and gentle 8/11/16 - Good morning Annette, I just wanted to let you know that Zoey is doing wonderfully in her new home! She has really come out of her shell since coming home. She loves to follow me wherever I go, and although usually she prefers to sit on the opposite end of the sofa from me, sometimes she will snuggle up while I'm watching TV or reading a book. I've even woken up some mornings to find her curled up beside me! She's quite the chatterbox when I get home from work every day and she loves to have playtime whenever she can get it. We had our first vet visit on Saturday and she was such a good girl and so calm! She is a silly, sweet girl and I'm so glad that she is part of my home now. All the best, Sarah
ROMEO the KITTEN 8/8/16 - Hi Barb, Getting back to you has been on my to-do list during a busy time. Lots of good news for you, though. First, as an aside, we took the liberty of renaming Romeo. Given the fact that Romeo (as a name) had a particular significance in literary matters, it seemed problematic to explain that name for a neutered cat. We have named him Charley, and he is just the dearest, most wonderful kitten. What a blessing! It's been a long time since we have had a kitten and we had forgotten how cute (and devilish) kittens can be. But Charley is a joy in every way, and he is learning, as all of our cats learned quickly, that he is in charge around here. He is developing his routine now. He sleeps on our bed (usually between us) or in a chair beside the bed, but we don't keep the door shut so this is strictly his choice. We took your good advice and kept him in our bedroom for a couple of days at first. However, we tried to make sure he couldn't get under the bed by placing items there that would prevent him from hiding. That was a mistake. I had forgotten that kittens are smarter than I am. But he is in command of the whole house now, and he seems to be very happy. I haven't met a cat that I couldn't get along with, but Charley is a particularly good match for us, and we are grateful to you and the Castaway Critters organization for placing him with us. I remember my grandmother teaching us to be kind to animals, but what I learned later was that a pet is a member of the family and, accordingly, needs to occupy a very special place within the family. We are sharing these lessons with the future generations. I have made contact with out veterinarian and have scheduled an appointment om Saturday, August 20th. Having the records you gave me is very important. Thank you for all you have done for us and for all you do for the pets you "rescue". Sincerely, Bob P.S. we are blessed to have Charley! He has warmed up to everybody, including the grandchildren and friends who have visited as well. The wonderful work you and the Castaway Critters do has brought him into our loving family. I hate to think of the alternative for him without you and the organization being there to "rescue" him. Kudos to you!
Sylvester - Young, playful lap cat! 7/24/16 - Good Morning Annette, Everything is well with Sylvester. He is sleeping here in bed next to me. All of the cats are getting along!!! Sylvester does want to go outside so I have to be very careful when coming & going. Last Saturday, I got a package & when I bent down to get it, he got right by me. I ended up chasing him all over the neighborhood. I would get real close to pick him up then he quick would shoot away from me. It was a game to him, but I almost was in tears. He is such a sweet guy & follows me all over the house. He watches TV with me and sits close when I read. He is such a joy! I hope all is well with you & your kitties. I will keep in touch. Susie
Isabel - Wonderful sleeping companion! 3/27/16 - Hello Annette! Isabel is such a wonderful little girl. She is a total LOVEBUG!! She sleeps at my feet every single night and will come up to me in the middle of the night and knead my arms for attention. I can't find many instances where she isn't purring!! :) noises and fast movements still spook her a little, but she's getting better with it and is spending more time out in the living room instead of hiding in the bedroom. She was using the couch as a scratching post in the middle of the night so I bought her and actual post and she loves it. It took almost a month for her and my boy cat to sleep together in my bed with me. Every now and then they will fight for a few seconds in the middle of the night or chase each other through the house but other than that they have come so far! They lay together on the couch or floor and even rubb against each other and rub faces. I was scared they'd never come around. Her vet check up went terrific. She did absolutely wonderful. She has been such a blessing to our family and we are so happy to give her her furrever home! Malinda
Will - Great with other cats! 2/22/16 - Hi, Will seems to be fitting into our house well. We took him out of the crate completely last Sunday. Took Will to have his claws clipped, he was very cool with that. We have a vets appt this Wednesday. He has gotten into our schedule of meals and doing very well. He is getting comfortable with us also, climbing on our laps and sleeping very relaxed. He is having fun playing with the toys that are here, catnip toys, balls that are colored foil that fly across the room and him scrambling to catch them, and even sticking his whole head in the basket with toys.
