Sage loves to be with you - maybe too much! Sometimes when you walk with him, he is right up against your leg. He likes to sleep on his foster mom's pillow at night and to put his head against her.

Sage was definitely hit by a man at one time and is afraid of being hit by a male. He will warm up to a man once he knows that he is not going to be punished.

Sage loves treats and loves to eat. This is probably the result of having had to fend for himself.

Sage was abandoned by his owner and was running for some time. When he was at large, many people must have chased him as he is afraid to come for fear of being hit. When you are around, Sage is as content as can be. He is okay with other dogs - tends to be afraid of them and he loves to walk in a pack. He ignores cats.

Sage does have some separation anxiety -we probably would too if we were unceremoniously dumped in a strange place to survive with nothing but our wits. He tends to destroy things in his crate when left alone, so a varikennel or crate with a metal bottom left in a place with flooring that cannot be destroyed is best for him. He does cry and whimper when left in the crate, but this tends to end after about 10 minutes. If left with a bowl of water or food in the crate, he will dump it. Sage does well uncrated in the house during the day, though using piddle pants at first while establishing a housetraining routine would be wise.

If Sage escapes, he tends to run and if chased or followed, he will run even harder. He should never be allowed to run without being properly leashed or in a safely fenced in yard.

Sage is a sweet and cute boy with his big ears and he would make a great dog for a loving and patient owner who is willing to work through the pain and issues that his former owner caused by abandoning him. It's hard not to fall in love with Sage once you know him. He needs you so much!

Sage will not soil the crate and knows to potty when he goes outside. But, he still does need a good housetraining routine. At one time, he was probably housetrained.
