What do you get when you mix one part Einstein, one part Jim Carey, one part Brad Pitt, and one part mischief? You get Sully! Sully is very smart, hysterical at times, good looking, and he can also be a blister. Sully has been adopted out twice and been returned. You see, he is a puppy, he is 8 months old, and he can be full of spit and vinegar. He also has energy to go all day long and run rings around you. One of his homes we think had too much activity for him and that caused him some stress. This caused him to drink a lot of water and have accidents in his crate and in the house. Since coming back to foster care, he has not had one accident in his crate. Crate training is by far the easiest way to house train and he is well on his way. He can go through the night and 8 hours during the day without having an accident.

Sully is a very very smart young man and picks up on things quickly. Just show him a few times and he has it down. This also means that you have to be smarter than him. If he gets one up on you, you will be in trouble. He’ll have you wrapped around his little dew claw (it's the closest thing he has to a finger) and you will be doing things his way. This will not be good. He needs a family that will give him structure, guidance, and training. Some have called him a block head, but he was smart enough to make them think he was un-trainable. This is so far from the truth it isn't funny. When he first arrived here at three months of age, he would jump like a jumping bean to get the food bowl you were carrying. In just two days of me just holding the bowl perfectly still and not saying a word to him, he realized that once he sat down he would get the food. I did not have to say anything, all I had to do was look at him and stay still. In one hour, another trainer had him doing lay downs with hand signals. For a young pup that was seven months old at the time, and had no formal training, that was great! It also proves he is pretty smart and can learn given the chance.

He loves to go for car rides and is a great little rider. He usually sits on the front seat and watches the sights go by with great interest. Once he is satisfied that all is right with the world, he will usually put his head on the armrest and keep an eye on you. It's almost as if he wants to make sure you are doing your job and paying attention to where you are going.

Sully is very much a social butterfly and has to be in on everything that you are doing. If you leave him alone, he will bark just so you know that he is there and you left him out of something. He needs to be part of the pack, when in his crate at night he is fine. He is also quality control when a job is being done. If you are outside working on something he is right there inspecting as you go, he will watch you intently and once he is satisfied with what you are doing, he will go off and play. We call him Inspector #12. Sully has been trained on an invisible fence, and as soon as he knows the boundaries, he is good to go. This has allowed him a lot of freedom and the ability to burn off all that excess puppy energy.

One thing that you will need to consider if you are thinking of adopting Sully, is/are the other pet/s in your home. Sully being the very active pup that he is, can tend to be a little annoying to older and more sedate dogs, and he can be just downright obnoxious to cats. You see, Sully thinks everyone is his friend and he just wants to play, and he likes to play hard. What he needs are pack mates that know how to delegate pack order or to be an only child. Think of him as an annoying teenager that just doesn't know when to quit.

Speaking of energy, he has tons of it!!! He will need to have someone that will work it out of him. He should probably have at least one or two hours of good exercise twice every day. Once he is bored, he WILL find ways to occupy himself, and YOU may not like the results of his inventive little mind, and how he has entertained himself. This is not his fault, go back and read the first paragraph, he is a puppy! Actually an adolescent, but never the less, he needs guidance and training for the next few months. Perfect pets are not born, they are molded and created. Sully can be that perfect companion, travel buddy, and comic relief, he just needs someone to show him the ropes of life. If you think you are that family, please consider putting in an application on him. In return he will give you his unconditional love.

Sully is currently enrolled in the HOPE Program in cooperation with the Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance. You can follow his progress by clicking on the banner below.
