Lainey

9/30/19 -Around June 2019, we decided to look in to adopting a dog. We had started fostering kittens for Castaway Critters and thought a dog would help with their socialization. We looked at the available dogs on the Castaway Critters website and zeroed in on LAINIE. About a week later, on a Saturday afternoon, we walked into the Colonial Park Petco to buy some cat items and saw that Castaway Critters was there showcasing dogs and cats. We asked one of the dog coordinators if LAINIE was going to be coming and found out that she was on her way! When LAINIE arrived with her foster mother Denise, she came up to me and we quickly settled down on the floor. She sat on my lap and put her head on my shoulder. We were hooked! We went through the adoption process and got the okay to pick up LAINIE on July 11, 2019! Since that time, LAINIE has blossomed. She enjoys a large fenced in yard surrounded by woods, walks around the neighborhood and through the woods with her pack (us), and looking at the foster kitties on the screened-in “catio”. She even has a best bud, Colby Jack, her orange-striped cat. (Our other five cats intimidate her, so she leaves them alone.) LAINIE loves car rides and goes cruising with us to Carlisle Barracks, Fort Indiantown Gap, Mechanicsburg and anywhere else we decide to go. She is still a little rough (ruff?) around the edges, but we are hopeful that the training classes at Petco will help to settle her down and ease her transition into adulthood.

Lenny - Lovable lap cat!

2/27/17 - Hi Annette, Just wanted to send you a quick email to let you know that Lenny is settling into his new home wonderfully. He hid under the couch for about an hour and then decided he was ready for some attention – he’s been acting like he owns the place ever since! I’m going to start working on some slow introductions to my dogs tonight, but he’s so confident that I don’t think he’ll have any trouble integrating with them. I’m attaching a few pictures of him enjoying himself – he’s very photogenic! Thanks for taking care of him! I think he’s going to be a wonderful addition to our family, and his funny, engaging personality is just what we need in the house to get over our grief from losing Shadow. Cady

Lisa Lovable -Come visit me @ Petco Mechanicsburg
Lisa Lovable -Come visit me @ Petco Mechanicsburg

9/6/16 - Hi, Annette, She is doing great. I have named her Lissy. She has just made herself at home. I was surprised that she didn'€™t find a hiding spot and disappear for a couple days, but she explored the whole upstairs and sleeps with me most nights. She loves the Indoor Cat Chow and is eating great. And of course she loves having her head and neck scratched and rubbed. She is laying on the floor right next to me now. But, she doesn't seem to mind when I'€™m not upstairs with her. She has found a place on the bed in this room she likes to lay on and sleep and just hang out when I'€™m not here. She hasn'€™t been downstairs yet, even though I left the door open for her one day. So I'€™m assuming she may not go down. She seems like a happy cat and must like it here; she sometimes insists on having her head scratched and if I don'€™t she butts my arm till I do. Thanks for checking in. I'€™ll let you know how things go when I get her to the vet. Dawn

Louis - LOVES to lap sit!

10/29/15 - Nero (formerly Louis) has brought so much happiness to our little family already... we love him dearly! The boys are both doing well and seem to be getting more used to each other by the day. Our current dillema is finding space for Chris and I in our queen size bed with 3 kitties, haha. They all sleep in bed together which is wonderful... not a real dilema! We dressed them up for some quick Halloween pictures... thought you'd enjoy them. :) Michele

Leo the Lion Declawed - Special Cat

Look at Leo's beautiful new photo! LEO the beautiful cat came to Castaway Critters as a stray in Harrisburg in the worst condition we have ever seen a cat. He was one big matted mess. His orange coat was so drenched in urine, feces and matted hair that he could not sit or lay down. He was also very ill with diabetic symptoms. Once in our control our great volunteers took him to Colonial Park Animal Clinic for an emergency shave down, vaccination, lab work and exam. Over the course of time, Leo blossomed and was the best cat ever. He was adopted to a lovely lady whose updates are below: It has been a month and a half since Leo has been off of insulin all together and his BG is stable at 84 and he's feeling fantastic if I do say so myself. He's still at 16 pounds, loves to eat and even plays a little. He sits with me and sleeps with me and even did well when I visited my parents in Virginia earlier in December. He is still eating the Wellness CORE wet food and occasionally the dry food as well. He's great with the litter box and the crushed walnut shells from Blue Buffalo that I use. Thanks again. Take care!
