It is believed that Moca is a beagle/collie/hound mix. She has the coloring of a beagle, , the loving, playful nature of a hound, & the  looks & high intelligence of a collie! (no wonder the dog is confused lol.)
Moca is a work in progress. She has a very friendly, outgoing, sweet nature. She will make someone a great running partner, or a great best friend to their dog. She plays for hours with my dogs everyday. She's good on her harness leash & almost totally housetrained. She goes into her crate easily. She's always happy, sweet, & good natured. She loves to play fetch with her tennis ball. She sleeps thru the night UNDER my bed (her preference.)  When she came to me she was a bit out of control, & needed basic obedience/manners training.  Fast forward a week to..... Entre-vous...HELP from a very wonderful & experienced dog trainer, Lee.
Lee spent an entire afternoon with Moca. Lee's assessment is that she is a wonderful girl, extremely bright, just needs to learn to apply basic obedience training, & manners.
Moca learned every command very quickly. She responded to the 'come!' command after 2 tries with a whistle. Yesterday she even learned to open the latch on the crate from the outside with her nose, just by watching me do it with my hand!!! SHe is one smart cookie. Stay tuned, we're teaching her to drive.... ;-)
3 weeks later:  Moca is showing great progress. She follows all commands MOST of the time when there's a training treat involved. The next step will be to do them without a treat. The biggest challenge with Moca is still that she's like a curious toddler, who wants to grab things in reach. We are constantly telling her to "leave it". If your home is already toddler proof you'll be ready, but otherwise everything of danger or value must be put out of her reach. This is typical puppy behavior, but because she's so smart, she's even more curious than many. This should minimize as she grows out of the puppy stage.
Are you interested in being Moca's forever family? Someone loving and patient & willing to keep working with her? Moca MUST have someone who is familiar with training basic commands, & will continue to practice what I'm doing with her! (basic sit, stay, leave it, etc.) We are working on the foundation so that when she's adopted that person will simply have to continue what we're doing.
She is highly energetic as are most young dogs, therefore she must have someone who either has a  dog so they can run and play, OR will walk her  ever day. A bored dog is a destructive dog. A fenced in yard would be wonderful, as she loves being outside in my yard as often as possible. She will be at the Cool Cars for Canines fundraiser on the 26th. Let me know if you are interested in Moca & are attending and we can meet!
